SDSI MISSION

SD Sport Innovators is the heartbeat of the Southern California sports business community. We inspire sports innovation through connections & networking, mentoring & education and access to capital.

As a non-profit, business accelerating, trade organization SDSI connects and drives the growth of Southern California's vibrant sports economy by offering innovative programs and services for start-ups, mature companies and service providers. We offer mentoring, education and capital funding opportunities for start-ups; best practice collaboration, access to new technology and public policy advocacy for mature companies; as well as deal flow to our service providers and the Southern California Investment Community.

BOOSTAMONTE MOUNTAINBOARDING MEETS SPORTS INSURANCE SOLUTIONS

Tell a typical insurance company you’re a mountainboarder looking for coverage and you might not even get a call back, much less a policy that fits your needs at a price you can afford. Hooked for years on the thrill of riding an oversized skateboard down a slope, Brad Beren and a friend founded Boostamonte Mountainboarding.  But insurance was a major obstacle Beren faced on the way to turning his passion into a successful business. That all changed when Brad met Craig Dawson of Sports Insurance Solutions at an SDSI Branding Panel in December 2010.  Dawson, has been insuring extreme sports athletes for several years and more recently broadened his business to cover a larger sports audience. HUMANCENTRIC PERFORMANCE

Rob Logan has mentored more than 25 companies is his two years as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence with CONNECT, offering them expertise on everything from identifying and fixing holes in their business plan to raising capital to dealing with customers. Then a little more than a year ago he found himself on the opposite side of the equation. He and three colleagues had come up with the concept of putting digital thermometers in mouth guards, as a way to monitor an athlete’s body temperature to improve performance and protect against hyperthermia. Faced with the challenge of building a business from the ground up, Logan knew exactly where he wanted to turn for help – the CONNECT Springboard program and SD Sport Innovators. LISA FREEDMAN - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SDSI

Bill Walton, executive chairman of SD Sport Innovators (SDSI), today named Lisa Freedman as the organization’s executive director. “We are proud, honored and most fortunate to welcome Lisa Freedman to the SDSI team,” Walton said. “Lisa brings nearly 20 years of management experience, and the guidance and foresight SDSI needs to continue to grow into the organization we all envision; one that is the frontrunner for sports innovation, entrepreneurship, business creation and collaboration.” Click here to read more

SD Sport Innovators (SDSI) has partnered with the Sports MBA program at San Diego State University in a joint effort to provide value to all areas within the Southern California sports economy. • ROGUE

  SD Sport Innovators (SDSI) began working with Rogue in early 2011 to help solidify the SDSI brand and strengthen the work they do for sports start-ups in Southern California.   With a storefront and an online outlet, his Overload Skate Shop in San Diego was doing well, thanks in part to his involvement with SD Sport Innovators and the guidance he received from SDSI advisory board member and Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR), Jim Stroesser after Churder entered CONNECT's Springboard Program in 2009.
